Garden Rooms
Fragmented topiaries of shade and rest.
Garden Rooms is an alternative pedestrian streetscape for post-war American cities. These 20 transit stations along a 6-mile corridor are fragmented and combined with desert landscaping, forming pedestrian-enhanced paths and rooms between transit stops and street intersections that lead to neighborhoods. Each fragment comprises four systems: precast concrete ‘tree branch’ and seating structure, corten steel support frames, perforated shade, seat panels, and climbing bougainvillea vines. Rooms are formed by site-specific configurations of the different fragments to assure solar protection during all times of the year.
