Cool Ground
A cooling micro park at the scale of furniture.
The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art installation provides an ambiguous terrain for lounging, playing, reading, and meeting. Occupying a scale between furniture and a micro park, the topography of the structure is ergonomically designed to accommodate the human body in any number of positions. The hollow cavity below the artificial grass is an air plenum that fills with cool air provided by a hidden evaporative cooler/hedge in the center of the structure. Hot air is pulled into the evaporative cooler above and transformed into cool air under the structure. Small holes in the surface of the topography allow cool air to pass through the top surface of the turf to cool the inhabitants. The micro-climate created by Cool Ground demonstrates a small-scale amenity infrastructure.
